This is Katie and Ted. Katie is about the only doll I kept. She is a Kathe Kruse doll with a lovely face & real hair. Her dress & shoes are original but I think she may have had a straw hat too at one point. There was a label about her which sadly went missing years ago.
Ted belongs to my oldest brother but when mum was down sizing her home, Ted came to live with me. He must be fifty four now bless him.
Along with Katie I had a stiff walkie - talkie doll called Diana, a straw filled doll called Suzie Wong and a very life like baby doll called Joanie. Joanie had glorious red hair but I cut it all off. We took her to the doll's hospital in Brighton and they gave her a ridiculous wig of brown curly hair. I suppose I chose it.
Katie also went to the hospital to get her feet repaired but her shoes have never fitted since - too loose.
My God mother knitted me the Whinny the Poo characters. I loved the one of Kanga & baby roo. I'm afraid the mice got at them in a packing case. I suspect their home was rather nice with kapok stuffing !
Later came a Tressy doll with the ability to grow her hair and an inherited Sindy who set up home with my brother's Action Man ! I never had a Barbie.
I loved my dolls. My daughter has NEVER liked dolls ... her love was a little pink rabbit called Auf. When Wee Man was born, I bought her a doll & a cradle. She got home from visiting us at the hospital - saw the doll and said, " What's that ? !" then threw the doll out of the cradle and put Auf in. At least she did treat her little brother with more kindness though at the hospital she had ignored him and eaten all the chocolates....

  1. Lovely post again! I still have my doll from when I was one, he now has no eyes, he had one for a long time, so he was called Jimmy one eye. Then the dog savaged him one day and so he has no hands and one foot! Nice! Yet still I keep him! Must post about my talking doll and what I did to the poor thing!!! Yes, and at least your daughter didn't throw her brother out of the cot! I loved my dolls too! Suzie. xxx

He also had pecan the bear who he pushed around in a wicker dolls' pram of mine which mum kept...it's in my loft now !

  4. Aww what lovely memories. 'Teddy Robinson' was my main toy dude growing up, I think my mum passed him on to my nephew. I've been stitching a teddy today funnily enough, I'll get some piccies up when it's finished. Xx

  6. I never liked dolls either. Instead I once had a stuffed toy cat called Susan. I used to tell my mum stories about Susan when I was little. Then, in hospital I got a large teddy with a bell in one ear. He was called Tinkerbell and I still have him. I don't know what happened to Susan, but then she may have fallen into a story and gone somewhere in it.

  9. Thank you Suzie. Not sure what you do when someone names you in an award ...don't feel I should put it up unless it's a direct award - hope that is ok.

  10. OH, what memories you have stirred in me. My teddy was called Paul and he came to hospital with me when I was four. I went on to marry a Paul and he is my comfort ever since. I still have Paul 1 and Paul 2.(both a little ragged around the edges) I have blogged about them before and must reblog about Paul 1 again. Thanks a mill. Pam
